Chapter 16: Janmdivas Par Ped Lagao
"Janmdivas Par Ped Lagao" (जन्मदिवस पर पेड़ लगाओ) means "plant a tree on your birthday". It brings together a happy occasion and care for the environment. Children can talk about birthdays and about trees, and think about how planting a tree can be a lasting gift. The chapter builds vocabulary of plants and celebrations, and gives a gentle environmental message. Planting a seed or sapling at school or home and watching it grow is a natural follow-up.
This is chapter 16 of 19 in Sarangi, the Class 1 Hindi textbook, in Unit 4, त्योहार और मेले (Festivals and fairs), and begins on page 91 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "Holi" and is followed by "Hawa".
In "Janmdivas Par Ped Lagao", the focus is on understanding and expression. Children can retell the content, discuss what they liked, find new words and use them in sentences of their own. Poems are meant to be recited and stories to be told and acted out. Because the book is designed for a multilingual country, teachers are encouraged to welcome children's home languages and to connect the lesson to local stories, songs and sayings.
Make "Janmdivas Par Ped Lagao" a family activity by reading a few lines aloud in turns, acting out a part or playing a word game with words from the lesson. Praise effort and expression, and avoid correcting every error at once.
