Chapter 2: چاند میں پریاں رہتی ہیں
"Chaand Mein Pariyan Rehti Hain" is a poem by Afsar Meerathi, a poet known for children's verse. The title speaks of fairies who live in the moon, an image that invites imagination. Children enjoy the rhythm, repeat lines after the teacher, and talk about the moon and what they imagine on it. Poems are central to the book because they teach sound, pronunciation and memory. After recitation, children can draw the moon and the fairies and say a sentence about them, while the teacher points out the letters and words from the lesson.
This is chapter 2 of 18 in Shahnai, the Class 1 Urdu textbook, and begins on page 8 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "بارش اور پراٹھے" and is followed by "دو دوست". Its form in the contents is: poem, by Afsar Meerathi. Transliterated title: Chaand mein Pariyaan Rehti Hain.
Urdu textbooks at this stage share cultural values as well as language, and "چاند میں پریاں رہتی ہیں" is an opportunity to do both. Listening, speaking, reading and writing are developed together, and the teacher's own clear, expressive reading is the most useful model. Short daily practice in tracing letters and copying neat lines helps with the shapes of the script. Families can help by listening to the child read, by sharing poems and stories from their own heritage and by praising effort.
Listen to your child read "چاند میں پریاں رہتی ہیں" aloud at home and ask what they understood. Point to words along the line from right to left, and help them trace letters carefully. Reciting poems to family members builds both pronunciation and confidence.
