Chapter 7: شہزادہ سوہن

"Shehzada Sohan" (Prince Sohan) is a poem about a prince, which suggests a lively, rhythmic piece with a character children can picture. Poems about princes and princesses allow imagination and make recitation enjoyable. Children repeat the lines, clap the rhythm and imagine the prince's world. The chapter develops memory, pronunciation and sound awareness, and gives scope for drawing and role-play. Children can invent a few lines of their own about the prince, which builds vocabulary and early creativity in Urdu.

This is chapter 7 of 18 in Shahnai, the Class 1 Urdu textbook, and begins on page 40 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "باغ کی سیر" and is followed by "سردی کی دوپہر". Its form in the contents is: poem. Transliterated title: Shehzada Sohan.

In "شہزادہ سوہن", the aims are fluent reading, clear pronunciation and understanding. Children can be asked to read a few lines aloud, explain what they understood, find new words and use them in a sentence of their own. The book links Urdu with art, environment, science and social science, so discussion can move beyond the text to the child's surroundings. Oral answers come before written ones, and children should not be hurried or discouraged by errors in spelling or script.

Make reading "شہزادہ سوہن" a shared moment. Take turns reading lines, discuss unfamiliar words and look for them in newspapers or signs. Short, daily practice, with praise for effort, helps the script and the language settle.

This overview is written from the 2026-27 textbook's Contents page, its preface and the chapter title, to help families and teachers prepare. Please read the chapter itself for exact content, activities and exercises.
