Chapter 20: Chhupan-Chhupai

"Chhupan-Chhupai" (छुपन-छुपाई) means hide and seek, one of the oldest and most widely loved children's games. The chapter keeps the friendship and play theme going and is likely to be playful, perhaps with repeated phrases that suit reading aloud. Children can talk about where they hide, how they count and what they feel when found. It supports vocabulary of places and positions, such as behind, under and inside. A real game of hide and seek, with oral descriptions of hiding places, makes a lively follow-up.

This is chapter 20 of 26 in Sarangi, the Class 2 Hindi textbook, in Unit 4, मित्रता (Friendship), and begins on page 96 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "Out" and is followed by "Haathi Cycle Chala Raha Tha".

Teachers can use "Chhupan-Chhupai" to develop fluency, comprehension and a love of reading. Reading aloud by the teacher and then by children, pair talk, role-play and short writing tasks suit this chapter. Spelling, matras and punctuation are best practised in context, through words that children have met in the lesson, rather than as isolated rules. Praise for effort and for attempts at expression helps children grow in confidence.

Listen to your child read or recite "Chhupan-Chhupai" at home, and ask them to tell you in their own words what it is about. Encourage them to find new words, say what they liked and relate the lesson to their own experience. A short daily reading habit is more useful than a long occasional one.

This overview is written from the 2026-27 textbook's Contents page, its preface and the chapter title, to help families and teachers prepare. Please read the chapter itself for exact content, activities and exercises.
