Chapter 8: بچوں کی دیوالی
"Bachchon Ki Diwali" (children's Diwali) is a story about the festival of lights as children experience it. Urdu textbooks reflect a shared culture, and the story presents a festival of joy, lamps, sweets and togetherness. Children talk about how festivals are celebrated in their homes and neighbourhoods and learn vocabulary of lamps, fireworks, sweets and decoration. The chapter supports comprehension, cultural awareness and respect for other communities' celebrations. It also provides an opportunity to talk about safe and clean celebration.
This is chapter 8 of 19 in Shahnai, the Class 2 Urdu textbook, and begins on page 46 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "برسات" and is followed by "گاندھی جی کی پنسل". Its form in the contents is: story. Transliterated title: Bachchon ki Diwali.
Urdu textbooks at this stage share cultural values as well as language, and "بچوں کی دیوالی" is an opportunity to do both. Listening, speaking, reading and writing are developed together, and the teacher's own clear, expressive reading is the most useful model. Short daily practice in tracing letters and copying neat lines helps with the shapes of the script. Families can help by listening to the child read, by sharing poems and stories from their own heritage and by praising effort.
Listen to your child read "بچوں کی دیوالی" aloud at home and ask what they understood. Point to words along the line from right to left, and help them trace letters carefully. Reciting poems to family members builds both pronunciation and confidence.
