Chapter 13: I Play and Dance

"I Play and Dance" links play, games and dance. Children turn familiar games, actions and rhymes into movement and rhythm, making the connection between everyday play and dance. The chapter encourages creativity, as children invent movements to go with games and songs. It develops coordination, rhythm and imagination, and shows that dance can come from daily life. Group activities help children cooperate and take turns. The chapter works well outdoors or in a large space where children can move freely and safely.

This is chapter 13 of 20 in Bansuri, the Class 3 Arts textbook, in the Movement and Dance section, and begins on page 93 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "Dance for Joy" and is followed by "Dance with Nature".

"I Play and Dance" is meant to be experienced, not just read. Teachers are encouraged to use the resources in the chapter's QR code, invite local artists or take children out to observe and listen. The book asks that periods allotted to arts are not used for other subjects, and that children are never compared with each other. Each child is encouraged to compete only with their own earlier work, and to enjoy the activity.

Where possible, link "I Play and Dance" to local art and culture: a visit to a performance, a craft in the neighbourhood or a song from a grandparent. These experiences deepen the chapter and show that arts are a living part of community life.

This overview is written from the 2026-27 textbook's Contents page, its preface and the chapter title, to help families and teachers prepare. Please read the chapter itself for exact content, activities and exercises.
