Chapter 7: Feel the Rhythm ta ka ta ki Ta

"Feel the Rhythm ta ka ta ki Ta" introduces rhythm through spoken syllables, claps and beats. Children explore beat and pattern by saying rhythmic syllables, clapping, tapping and moving, which is a foundation of Indian music and dance. The book's description of the Music unit says children will explore songs from different parts of the country, sing them in several languages and learn about musical instruments. This chapter develops listening, coordination, memory and a sense of timing. Group activities allow children to create rhythm patterns together and to feel music in their bodies.

This is chapter 7 of 20 in Bansuri, the Class 3 Arts textbook, in the Music section, and begins on page 45 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "Our National Anthem" and is followed by "Travel Around".

"Feel the Rhythm ta ka ta ki Ta" is meant to be experienced, not just read. Teachers are encouraged to use the resources in the chapter's QR code, invite local artists or take children out to observe and listen. The book asks that periods allotted to arts are not used for other subjects, and that children are never compared with each other. Each child is encouraged to compete only with their own earlier work, and to enjoy the activity.

Where possible, link "Feel the Rhythm ta ka ta ki Ta" to local art and culture: a visit to a performance, a craft in the neighbourhood or a song from a grandparent. These experiences deepen the chapter and show that arts are a living part of community life.

This overview is written from the 2026-27 textbook's Contents page, its preface and the chapter title, to help families and teachers prepare. Please read the chapter itself for exact content, activities and exercises.
