Chapter 2: Motor Fitness

"Motor Fitness" is Unit 2, running from about page 15 to page 41. After an introduction, the contents list nine activities, including Obstacle Race, Balancing Act, Shivam Says, Collaborate and Conquer, Grab the Ball, Crocodile Race and Head, Shoulder, Knee and Ball. Motor fitness covers qualities such as speed, agility, balance, coordination and strength, and the games build them in a playful way. Students practise safely, notice their own progress and discuss how fitness helps in daily life. It is the longest group of general activities in the book.

This is chapter 2 of 5 in Khel Yatra, the Class 6 Physical Education and Well Being textbook, in Unit 2, Motor Fitness, and begins on page 15 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "Importance of Physical Education and Well-being" and is followed by "Fundamental Skills of Kho-Kho".

Participation matters more than performance in "Motor Fitness". The aim is for each child to experience the joy of movement and to build the habit of regular activity. Safety checks of the space and equipment, a short warm-up and a calm cool-down are part of good practice. Assessment follows the protocol at the back of the book and focuses on effort, improvement and attitude as well as skill.

Families can support "Motor Fitness" by giving children time and safe space to play outdoors, joining in occasionally and asking them to describe what they enjoyed. Avoid focusing only on winning. Encourage children to teach a younger sibling or friend what they learnt, which builds confidence and leadership.

This overview is written from the 2026-27 textbook's Contents page, its preface and the chapter title, to help families and teachers prepare. Please read the chapter itself for exact content, activities and exercises.
