Chapter 8 (Part 2, Chapter 1): World Geography: Some Glimpses
Chapter 8 (Part 2, Chapter 1 in the printed book). On this site the chapters of both parts are numbered continuously.
"World Geography: Some Glimpses" opens Part 2 and Theme A, with about thirty-two pages. Students are likely to take a wider look at the continents, climates, landscapes and peoples of the world, comparing them with India. Maps, images and case studies are central. It follows the Grade 6 chapters on oceans and continents and the Part 1 chapter on natural resources, and gives the "beyond" in the title of the book more weight. Locating places and discussing how geography shapes life in different regions are natural activities.
This is chapter 8 (Part 2, Chapter 1) of 15 in Exploring Society: India and Beyond, the Class 8 Social Science textbook, in the India and the World: Land and the People section, and begins on page 1 of Part 2 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "Factors of Production" and is followed by "India's Long Road to Independence".
The aim of "World Geography: Some Glimpses" is understanding, not recall. Students should be able to explain ideas in their own words, give local examples and ask their own questions. Teachers can encourage them to collect stories, objects and information from home and the neighbourhood, which makes the chapter personal and meaningful and builds respect for different views and ways of life.
At home, talk with your child about "World Geography: Some Glimpses": ask what they found interesting and what they would like to find out. Look at a map or atlas together, share family stories and ask them to relate the chapter to your neighbourhood or community.
This overview is written from the 2026-27 textbook's Contents page, its preface and the chapter title, to help families and teachers prepare. Please read the chapter itself for exact content, activities and exercises.
