NCERT Solutions for Class 2 Hindi Chapter 23: Chanda Mama
"Chanda Mama" (चंदा मामा) is a very short chapter about the moon, called maternal uncle in Indian tradition. It is probably a rhyme or song, and the moon is a loved subject in lullabies and folk songs. Children can recite, sing and talk about the moon's shape and light. The chapter supports rhythm, memory and expression, and invites children to look at the night sky and draw what they see. Families may share their own moon songs and stories, linking school learning with home culture. This is chapter 23 of 26 in Sarangi, the Class 2 Hindi textbook, in Unit 5, आकाश (The sky), and begins on page 111 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "Chaar Dishayein" and is followed by "Gire Taal Mein Chanda Mama". Teachers can use "Chanda Mama" to develop fluency, comprehension and a love of reading. Reading aloud by the teacher and then by children, pair talk, role-play and short writing tasks suit this chapter. Spelling, matras and punctuation are best practised in context, through words that children have met in the lesson, rather than as isolated rules. Praise for effort and for attempts at expression helps children grow in confidence. Listen to your child read or recite "Chanda Mama" at home, and ask them to tell you in their own words what it is about. Encourage them to find new words, say what they liked and relate the lesson to their own experience. A short daily reading habit is more useful than a long occasional one. This overview is written from the 2026-27 textbook's Contents page, its preface and the chapter title, to help families and teachers prepare. Please read the chapter itself for exact content, activities and exercises.
