NCERT Solutions for Class 4 Arts Chapter 13: Sounds and Instruments

"Sounds and Instruments" closes the Music unit by looking at how sounds are made and at the instruments used to make them. Children listen to and compare instruments, group them by how they produce sound, such as striking, plucking, blowing or shaking, and may make simple instruments from everyday materials. Visits from local musicians or recordings in the chapter's resources enrich the lesson. The chapter builds listening, observation and an appreciation of the instruments of different regions. This is chapter 13 of 18 in Bansuri, the Class 4 Arts textbook, in the Music section, and begins on page 127 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "Think, Feel, Create" and is followed by "My Body in Dance". "Sounds and Instruments" is meant to be experienced, not just read. Teachers are encouraged to use the resources in the chapter's QR code, invite local artists or take children out to observe and listen. The book asks that periods allotted to arts are not used for other subjects, and that children are never compared with each other. Each child is encouraged to compete only with their own earlier work, and to enjoy the activity. Where possible, link "Sounds and Instruments" to local art and culture: a visit to a performance, a craft in the neighbourhood or a song from a grandparent. These experiences deepen the chapter and show that arts are a living part of community life. This overview is written from the 2026-27 textbook's Contents page, its preface and the chapter title, to help families and teachers prepare. Please read the chapter itself for exact content, activities and exercises.
