Chapter 16: مکڑی

"Makdi" (the spider) is a poem by Ismail Meerathi, a poet widely read in primary classes for clear, musical verse. A spider offers children a close-up creature to observe, with its web, patience and skill. Children recite, learn the new words and talk about what they know about spiders and webs. The chapter builds vocabulary of small creatures and supports rhythm and memory. A short observation of a web, if one is safe to see, and a drawing of a web with labels make the lesson concrete.

This is chapter 16 of 19 in Shahnai, the Class 2 Urdu textbook, and begins on page 97 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "پڑوسی" and is followed by "آؤ گیت گائیں". Its form in the contents is: poem, by Ismail Meerathi. Transliterated title: Makdi.

In "مکڑی", the aims are fluent reading, clear pronunciation and understanding. Children can be asked to read a few lines aloud, explain what they understood, find new words and use them in a sentence of their own. The book links Urdu with art, environment, science and social science, so discussion can move beyond the text to the child's surroundings. Oral answers come before written ones, and children should not be hurried or discouraged by errors in spelling or script.

Make reading "مکڑی" a shared moment. Take turns reading lines, discuss unfamiliar words and look for them in newspapers or signs. Short, daily practice, with praise for effort, helps the script and the language settle.

This overview is written from the 2026-27 textbook's Contents page, its preface and the chapter title, to help families and teachers prepare. Please read the chapter itself for exact content, activities and exercises.
