Chapter 13: Time Goes On
"Time Goes On" is the chapter on time, one of the measurement strands named in the preface. Children are likely to read clocks, link hours and minutes, and use calendars to find days, weeks and months, with everyday routines as context. A clock face made of paper with movable hands is a useful tool. The chapter probably asks them to order events, find durations and talk about how they spend their time.
This is chapter 13 of 14 in Maths Mela, the Class 3 Mathematics textbook, and begins on page 165 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "Give and Take" and is followed by "The Surajkund Fair".
The key to "Time Goes On" is understanding before procedure. Teachers and parents are asked not to rush to rules, and to let children use counters, sticks, drawings, coins or everyday objects until the idea is clear. Questions in the chapter are examples of how children can be assessed: through materials, pictures, problem situations and explanations, not only paper-and-pencil sums. Games and puzzles are included for enjoyment and need not be graded.
Encourage your child to make up their own question about "Time Goes On" and to solve it for you. Use drawings, counters or a number line where useful, and praise reasoning, not just the right answer. If a task needs cut-outs or materials, simple home-made versions are fine.
