Chapter 3: Aqua World
"Aqua World" turns to water and the life in it. Children think about fish, plants, waves, ripples and reflections and express them using colour, line and shape, perhaps through wax resist, wet-on-wet painting or collage. Water is a rich subject because it moves and changes, and it links with the World Around Us chapters on water. The chapter builds imagination and experiments with materials, and invites children to create an underwater scene together. As with all Visual Arts tasks in the book, the process matters more than a finished picture.
This is chapter 3 of 18 in Bansuri, the Class 4 Arts textbook, in the Visual Arts section, and begins on page 26 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "Textures in Nature" and is followed by "People in Action".
In "Aqua World", the process matters more than the product. Children are encouraged to experiment, observe and express in their own way, and the book states that there is no pass or fail in arts at this stage. Activities can be done with simple, locally available materials. Each class can begin with a minute of quiet recall of the previous lesson and end with Circle Time, when children talk freely and the teacher notes observations for future planning.
After "Aqua World", ask your child to show or teach you something they learnt: a song, a movement, a drawing or a short scene. Watching, listening and appreciating at home encourages the habit of creative practice, which grows over time.
