Chapter 4: People in Action
"People in Action" closes the Visual Arts unit by focusing on the human figure in movement. Children observe how people run, play, work and dance, and learn to show that energy in drawings and models, using simple lines and shapes rather than detail. Quick sketches of classmates in different poses are a classic activity. The chapter links with the Dance and Theatre units that follow, since all of them deal with the body in motion. It builds observation, confidence in drawing and appreciation for the work people do.
This is chapter 4 of 18 in Bansuri, the Class 4 Arts textbook, in the Visual Arts section, and begins on page 37 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "Aqua World" and is followed by "Explore!".
"People in Action" is meant to be experienced, not just read. Teachers are encouraged to use the resources in the chapter's QR code, invite local artists or take children out to observe and listen. The book asks that periods allotted to arts are not used for other subjects, and that children are never compared with each other. Each child is encouraged to compete only with their own earlier work, and to enjoy the activity.
Where possible, link "People in Action" to local art and culture: a visit to a performance, a craft in the neighbourhood or a song from a grandparent. These experiences deepen the chapter and show that arts are a living part of community life.
