Chapter 10: گنگا
"Ganga" (گنگا) is a poem by Hafeez Jalandhari, a leading twentieth-century Urdu poet who also wrote the hamd in the Class 3 book. The title names India's great river, so the poem probably celebrates its beauty and its place in life and faith. Children recite with rhythm, picture the river and talk about rivers near them. The chapter supports pronunciation, imagery and vocabulary of nature, and pairs naturally with the Class 5 World Around Us chapter on the journey of a river.
This is chapter 10 of 13 in Sitar, the Class 5 Urdu textbook, and begins on page 128 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "ڈیجیٹل دادی" and is followed by "ٹیولپ گارڈن". Its form in the contents is: poem, by Hafeez Jalandhari. Transliterated title: Ganga.
In "گنگا", the aims are fluent reading, clear pronunciation and understanding. Children can be asked to read a few lines aloud, explain what they understood, find new words and use them in a sentence of their own. The book links Urdu with art, environment, science and social science, so discussion can move beyond the text to the child's surroundings. Oral answers come before written ones, and children should not be hurried or discouraged by errors in spelling or script.
Make reading "گنگا" a shared moment. Take turns reading lines, discuss unfamiliar words and look for them in newspapers or signs. Short, daily practice, with praise for effort, helps the script and the language settle.
