Chapter 13: جھلکاری بائی

"Jhalkari Bai" (جھلکاری بائی) is a play translated from Hindi about Jhalkari Bai, the woman warrior who is remembered for standing beside Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi in the 1857 uprising. Reading a play in parts lets students practise expression and turn-taking. At about ten pages it is a long chapter. They learn about a lesser-known heroine, discuss courage and loyalty and may stage the play. It supports reading drama and links with the English graphic story on Rani Abbakka and with the Social Science chapters on history.

This is chapter 13 of 14 in Khayal, the Class 7 Urdu textbook, and begins on page 117 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "ہمارے کھیل" and is followed by "ڈیجیٹل ٹیکنالوجی". Its form in the contents is: play (translated from hindi). Transliterated title: Jhalkari Bai.

In "جھلکاری بائی", the aims are fluent reading, clear pronunciation and understanding. Children can be asked to read a few lines aloud, explain what they understood, find new words and use them in a sentence of their own. The book links Urdu with art, environment, science and social science, so discussion can move beyond the text to the child's surroundings. Oral answers come before written ones, and children should not be hurried or discouraged by errors in spelling or script.

Make reading "جھلکاری بائی" a shared moment. Take turns reading lines, discuss unfamiliar words and look for them in newspapers or signs. Short, daily practice, with praise for effort, helps the script and the language settle.

This overview is written from the 2026-27 textbook's Contents page, its preface and the chapter title, to help families and teachers prepare. Please read the chapter itself for exact content, activities and exercises.
