NCERT Solutions for Class 4 Urdu Chapter 3: خاندانی شجرہ
"Khandaani Shajra" (خاندانی شجرہ) is a play, and the contents label it as such. The title means "the family tree", so children probably work with family relationships, from grandparents to cousins, in dialogue form. Reading a play in parts is a different experience from reading prose, and children practise expression, turn-taking and speaking in character. The chapter is long, about nineteen pages, and ties language to family and identity. Children can draw their own family tree and ask elders about names and relatives. A read-only essay on cricket follows it. This is chapter 3 of 14 in Sitar, the Class 4 Urdu textbook, and begins on page 22 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "چھپا خزانہ" and is followed by "میرا پیارا وطن". Its form in the contents is: play. Transliterated title: Khandaani Shajra. Urdu is written right to left in a cursive script, so reading and writing need regular, patient practice. With "خاندانی شجرہ", teachers are advised to read the lesson aloud first, let children repeat with correct pronunciation, discuss the meaning of new words and then move to oral and written questions. Writing practice builds from letters to words to sentences. Poems are best learnt with rhythm and recited aloud, and children should be encouraged to love the sound of the language as much as its script. After "خاندانی شجرہ", ask your child to tell you the story or the idea in their own words, and to write one or two neat sentences in Urdu script. Elders can add poems, sayings and stories from their own childhood, which strengthens the connection with the language. This overview is written from the 2026-27 textbook's Contents page, its preface and the chapter title, to help families and teachers prepare. Please read the chapter itself for exact content, activities and exercises.
