Chapter 2: آم کی گٹھلی
"Aam Ki Guthli" (the mango stone) is a story in the unit on family. The title suggests a simple, everyday object at the centre of the tale, and children are likely to follow a small event with a lesson about sharing, care or growth. The story supports comprehension, sequencing and retelling, and gives practice in reading a longer text than in Class 2. Children can plant a mango stone or another seed and watch it, or discuss summer fruits and what happens to seeds, linking the lesson to nature.
This is chapter 2 of 19 in Sitar, the Class 3 Urdu textbook, in Unit 1, خاندان (Family), and begins on page 9 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "حمد" and is followed by "عید". Its form in the contents is: story. Transliterated title: Aam ki Guthli.
Urdu textbooks at this stage share cultural values as well as language, and "آم کی گٹھلی" is an opportunity to do both. Listening, speaking, reading and writing are developed together, and the teacher's own clear, expressive reading is the most useful model. Short daily practice in tracing letters and copying neat lines helps with the shapes of the script. Families can help by listening to the child read, by sharing poems and stories from their own heritage and by praising effort.
Listen to your child read "آم کی گٹھلی" aloud at home and ask what they understood. Point to words along the line from right to left, and help them trace letters carefully. Reciting poems to family members builds both pronunciation and confidence.
This overview is written from the 2026-27 textbook's Contents page, its preface and the chapter title, to help families and teachers prepare. Please read the chapter itself for exact content, activities and exercises.
