NCERT Solutions for Class 5 Urdu Chapter 8: چار دوست

"Chaar Dost" (چار دوست) is a play adapted from the Panchatantra, the ancient collection of animal fables, and its title means "four friends". Reading a play in parts lets children practise expression and turn-taking, and Panchatantra tales deliver lessons about friendship and wit. At about eighteen pages it is a long chapter, ideal for staging in class with children taking the characters. It supports comprehension, oral skills and moral reasoning. A short picture story from the Panchatantra, "Topi Wala Aur Bandar", closes the book. This is chapter 8 of 13 in Sitar, the Class 5 Urdu textbook, and begins on page 91 of the printed 2026-27 book. It follows "شہد کی مکھی" and is followed by "ڈیجیٹل دادی". Its form in the contents is: play (adapted from the panchatantra). Transliterated title: Chaar Dost. Urdu textbooks at this stage share cultural values as well as language, and "چار دوست" is an opportunity to do both. Listening, speaking, reading and writing are developed together, and the teacher's own clear, expressive reading is the most useful model. Short daily practice in tracing letters and copying neat lines helps with the shapes of the script. Families can help by listening to the child read, by sharing poems and stories from their own heritage and by praising effort. Listen to your child read "چار دوست" aloud at home and ask what they understood. Point to words along the line from right to left, and help them trace letters carefully. Reciting poems to family members builds both pronunciation and confidence. This overview is written from the 2026-27 textbook's Contents page, its preface and the chapter title, to help families and teachers prepare. Please read the chapter itself for exact content, activities and exercises.
